Angie and Dez Edible Landscape Part 2 - The Implementation

Two years ago I put together a permaculture plan for Angie and Dez (which you can access here), and shortly afterward the plan was put into place. As with a lot of plans, this one did not go 100% as expected and there were several changes made on the fly at the request of the homeowners. Having said that, I think it still turned out pretty well.

Thanks to Permaculture Sydney West for holding a blitz at their place to assist in the implementation of the plan.
The original plan was to put in the following –

  1. Outer Tree Area
  2. Bush Tucker Area
  3. The Herb Garden
  4. Olive Tree
  5. Path areas
  6. Perennial vegetable areas
  7. Climbers

The main difference with the plan was that the path area, rather than being curvy and having two cul-de-sac areas, became a straight line of 240mm x 240mm concrete paving slabs from one end to the other and the birdbath in this area was vetoed. You have to be flexible!

Also, the herb garden was constructed with bricks and the weeping hose was never installed, the outer fruit tree area was interplanted with lots of comfrey which became available on the day, and small animal figures have been added.
Here are some pictures of the area a couple of months after it was planted –

Now, after 2 years and innumerable harvests it is still doing well. Also in the interim the garden went through a very dry year and a summer peaking at 49 Deg. C!
